Rangifer tarandus

Reindeer belong to the family Cervidae and are distributed throughout the whole of the northern hemsphere. In northern Europe they are used as livestock. Both sexes have antlers, although the males shed them towards the end of December while the females shed them in spring. They are adapted to cold weather, having a thick coat in winter and wider hooves than the Iberian deer, which prevent them from sinking into the snow.
