Cervus elaphus

This is the largest deer on the Iberian Peninsula. The males develops large antlers. They prefer forested areas and are known as the “kings of the forest”. In spring and summer they are reddish in colour while in winter they turn greyer. The young deer have white patches on their coats which allow them to camouflage themselves in the surrounding vegetation, but they lose this colouring a few months after birth.

Adult weight:  100 to 200 Kg.
